Maruti Ertiga Diesel to get costlier; LDI base model discontinued

New Maruti Ertiga 6 Seater

Maruti Suzuki has announced to discontinue the base LDI variant of the Ertiga.

Maruti Suzuki had launched the second-generation Ertiga on November 14, 2018. The model is available with 2 engine options – a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel and a 1.5-litre petrol with smart hybrid system. In the next few days, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the all-new in-house-developed 1.5-litre diesel engine in the new Ertiga and Ciaz sedan. This engine will replace the existing 1.3-litre engine. In the wake of this news, Maruti Suzuki has announced to discontinue the base LDI variant of the Ertiga.

The company has asked its dealers to stop taking bookings of the base Ertiga LDI. Adding to it, the production of this model will stop from April 1, 2019. The decision will make the Ertiga diesel expensive as the new low-end variant is around Rs 72,000 expensive than the current model. Also See – Maruti Ertiga Cross model – all details

The Maruti Ertiga LDI is available at a price of Rs 8.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It comes with basic comfort and safety features like AC, power windows, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist and rear parking sensors. As this variant is no more on sale, the new base for Ertiga is the VDI variant that is priced at Rs 9.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Also See – Upcoming Maruti Cars in India

The introduction of the new 1.5-litre diesel engine is also expected to significantly increase the prices of the Ertiga. Moreover, the prices will further go up on the introduction of BSVI emission norms in April 2020. The current 1.3-litre diesel engine is capable of producing 89bhp and 200Nm of torque, while the upcoming 1.5L unit produces 94bhp and 225Nm of torque. This new engine will be paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. Moreover, it will miss out on smart hybrid technology.
