The French automaker, Citroen currently have two products in its Indian product lineup – C3 hatchback and C5 Aircross. Now, the company is planning to foray into the compact MPV segment with a new 7-seater model based on the C3 hatch. Its testing has already been commenced and we have seen its camouflaged prototypes revealing a few interesting details. Here, the new Citroen 7-seater MPV will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga that has been ruling the segment ever since its launch.
Visually, the new Citroen 7-seater MPV will share a great resemblance with its younger sibling (especially the front and rear profile). Though, it will be longer and have more cabin space. The test mule was spotted with 16-inch wheels replacing the C3’s 17-inch units. The model is likely to have plastic body cladding all around the body, larger glass area and a longer rear overhang. Its ground clearance will also be higher.
The new Citroen MPV will be designed on Stellantis’ CMP (Common Modular Platform) sourced from the C3 hatchback. Though, the carmaker might modify its architecture for model measuring above 4 meters in length. Interior layout and features are likely to be similar to the C3 hatch. Its touchscreen infotainment system, instrument cluster, dashboard design, centre console and steering wheel will be similar to its donor sibling. The 7-seater MPV might get more standard features. It could be made available with 6 and 7-seats configuration. Its 6-seater version will come with the captain seats in the middle row.
Under the hood, the new Citroen 7-seater MPV will employ the same 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol and 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engines. Both motors power the C3 hatchback. While the naturally aspirated unit makes a top power of 82PS with 115Nm, the turbo motor is good for 110PS and 190Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic unit.
