Maruti Ciaz, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, S-Cross To Soon Get 1.5L Diesel Engine

The new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder lightweight diesel engine is claimed to return an impressive fuel economy of 26.82kmpl.

We all know that the Fiat’s 1.3-litre MJD diesel engine won’t receive an upgrade to meet the upcoming BSVI emission norms. In fact, this engine will be phase out from our market in April 2020. This engine currently powers the entire diesel car range of Maruti Suzuki. In order to keep sales of its diesel cars, Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce an all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Maruti has been working on the all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine for a long time. In fact, this engine is currently in its final stage of development. This engine will power the big Maruti cars including Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza and S-Cross. This 1.5L diesel engine is not likely to power the smaller Maruti Suzuki cars. The new engine will first debut in the Ciaz sedan, which will be followed by Ertiga. The new 1,498cc, 4-cylinder, DDiS 225 engine won’t come with Suzuki’s smart hybrid technology (SHVS). This engine churns out a maximum power output of 94bhp at 4,000rpm and a peak torque of 225Nm between 1,500-2,500rpm.

The new 1.5-litre diesel engine is lightweight and features a dual mass flywheel. The new engine is claimed to return an impressive fuel economy of 26.82kmpl. The company is now gearing up for the launch of the new-gen Wagon R hatchback on January 23, 2019. It will also introduce an all-new micro SUV based on the Concept Future S during festive season 2019.
