New Maruti Ertiga 6 Seater

The new Maruti’s 1.5-litre diesel engine will produce 94bhp and 225Nm of torque.

We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce the new 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Ciaz mid-sized sedan and the Ertiga MPV. This engine will eventually replace the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre engine. Dealers have already started taking pre-orders for the Ciaz 1.5L diesel and Ertiga 1.5L diesel, while the price announcement is likely to happen in the end of this month.

Ahead of the launch, variant details and specifications of the new Ertiga 1.5L and Ciaz 1.5L diesel have been leaked on the internet. The new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine will produces 94bhp of power at 4,000rpm and a peak torque of 225Nm. This will be the least powerful 1.5L diesel engine in India; however, the torque value is better than Honda’s 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit (Producing 99bhp and 200Nm). The current 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine produces 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Upcoming Maruti Cars In India

The new engine will be offered in a BSIV version and will later be upgraded to BSVI emission norms. The new emission norms will come into effect in April 2020. A six-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will be offered as standard. Moreover, there will be no SHVS mild hybrid system on offer.

According to the leaked document, the new diesel engine will be made available in 3 variants of Ertiga – VDi, ZDi and ZDi+. Similarly, the new 1.5L engine will be made available in 3 variants of the Ciaz – Delta, Zeta and Alpha.

This engine won’t be offered with the entry-level Ertiga LDi and the Ciaz Sigma variants. This suggests that the entry-level models will be available with the old 1.3-litre diesel engine till April 2020. The leaked document further reveals that the Ertiga 1.5-litre will continue to be sold as a seven-seater model.

The new in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine will also power the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. The current model is available with single 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine.
