Launched at Rs 4.52 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Maruti Celerio X Cross will rival the Mahindra KUV100.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker has finally launched the long-awaited pseudo crossover-ish hatchback, Celerio X. It is based on its popular entry-level hatchback, Celerio. In terms of pricing, the Maruti Celerio X has been positioned below the Ignis. The hatchback is available in 8 variants – Vxi, Vxi (O), Vxi AMT, Vxi AMT (O), Zxi, Zxi (O), Zxi AMT and ZxiAMT (O) – priced between Rs 4.57 lakh and Rs 5.42 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Primarily a beefed-up version of Celerio, the crossover-hatchback comes equipped with an additional black body kit. Power is sourced from the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which is paired to either a five-speed manual or an AMT unit.

We have seen a paradigm shift in the customer preference over the years and while crossovers are yet to prove their credibility in the domestic market, car makers are not shying away from bringing new models in the segment, despite lukewarm demand. Maruti Celerio X Price In India

The Celerio X is a beefed version of the regular model and is positioned above the regular model in terms of pricing. It is available in two trim levels – Vxi and Zxi – and in total of 8 variants with manual and AMT gearbox options. While the base variant is priced at Rs 4.57 lakh, the top-end Zxi (O) AMT variant is tagged at Rs 5.42 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi.

Maruti Celerio X Exterior

The Celerio crossover-hatchback has newly designed X-theme based graphics around the grille in front. The vehicle gets an additional black body kit which includes several bits with black finish such as a matte black rear bumper with silver scuff plate, black wheel cladding and side mouldings and dual-tone front bumper with black trim around fog lamp pods. In addition to the aforementioned changes, the vehicle also has black ORVM housings with integrated turn indicators. The roof rail a top will be in line with its sporty look and it receives black door handles on the sides along with blacked-out B-pillar. There is a wiper at the rear. The 14-inch alloy wheels and fog lamps have been reserved for the top-spec Zxi MT trim.

Dimensions – Due to added cladding and revised bumper, the Celerio X is slightly longer and wider than the regular hatchback. That said, it measures 3,715mm in length, 1,635mm in width and 1,565mm in height. It sits on the same 2,425mm long wheelbase. The minimum ground clearance of the hatchback is 120mm and it offers a boot space of 235-litres along with a 35-litre fuel tank.

Maruti Celerio X Colors – the crossover-hatchback is available with an all-new Parika Orange shade. Besides, the vehicle gets four exterior paint jobs – Arctic White, Caffeine brown, Glistening grey and Torque blue.

The new Celerio X comes with an all-black interior scheme, which complements the overall sporty profile. The black interiors come with white accents, while the patterned all-black seats come with orange accents. As for the connectivity tech, it comes pack with an audio system with radio, CD player, USB port, Aux-in & Bluetooth.  Besides, Celerio X also gets a multi-functional steering wheel with audio control on the top-spec variants. On the safety front, the model gets standard driver side airbag, while the co-passenger airbag and anti-lock-braking system has been offered as an optional across all trims.

The new Celerio X is propelled by the same engine used in its regular version. That said, this crossover-ish hatchback derives power from the same 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that also powers the Celerio, WagonR and Alto K10. As for the power output it churns out a maximum power output of 67bhp at 6,000rpm and 90Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. The engine will be available with two options, a five-speed manual unit and a 5-speed automated manual transmission. This engine is the tried and tested engine and is also one of the most fuel efficient and reliable in its league.

Powered by the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine used in standard Celerio, the pseudo crossover delivers the same fuel economy as the hatchback. That said, the regular Celerio is claimed to return 23.1km/l and its beefed-up version returns the same mileage.

Measuring less than 4 meter in length, the new Celerio X is a compact hatchback that offers decent space for five adults. However, the rear seats are not spacious enough for 3 adults and are good enough for 2 adults only. The seats offer decent thigh and back support; though legroom space could have been better.

Maruti Celerio X Practicality

The crossover hatchback offers several cubby holes inside the cabin to carry bottles. It comes with 235-litres of boot space, which is more than sufficient to carry your weekend bags. However, rear seat can’s be folded down to create extra space. The vehicle gets decent sized glove box and coin holders on the dashboard.

For passengers’ safety and security, the Celerio X gets decent features like driver side airbag, passenger airbag, driver seat belt reminder, pedestrian protection, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), front seat belts pretensioner, headlight leveling, front ventilated disc, immobilizer, etc. However, dual-front airbags and anti-lock braking system comes as an optional across all variants.
