Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Just so you know, the Indo-Japanese carmaker launched the Celerio diesel at a starting price of Rs. 4.65 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Celerio diesel claims to be India’s most fuel efficient diesel car that returns an ARAI-certified mileage of 27.62kmpl. The car features Suzuki’s self-developed 793cc twin-cylinder DDiS engine that claims to offer a higher torque/cc than 1.3-litre Multijet diesel unit. Suzuki’s all-aluminum small diesel engine weighs 89kgs that makes it lightest powertrain in its league. Similar to its petrol counterpart, the Celerio diesel is available in four variants – LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi (O).

Exterior & Interior

Except for a new DDiS 125 badge at the rear, the diesel model of the car looks similar to the petrol model. The DDiS 125 badging here denotes, the engine’s torque output which is 125Nm. The Maruti Celerio is available in six color options – Sunshine Ray, Cerulean Blue, Silky Silver, Blazing Red, Pearl Arctic White and Glistening Grey. Coming to the features, the top-end variant of the hatchback is equipped with several advanced safety and comfort fitments such as stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, front and rear power windows, fog lights, keyless entry and rear wiper and washer. While the power steering, rear seat headrest, fabric upholstery, dual front airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) come as the standard offerings.

Engine & Transmission

Powering the Maruti Celerio diesel is an all-new 793cc twin-cylinder DDiS diesel powertrain – Suzuki’s self-developed diesel engine. It produces a maximum power output of 47bhp at 3, 500rpm along with 125Nm of peak torque at 2, 000rpm. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine is an all-aluminum assembly that weighs 89kgs only, and becomes the lightest and smallest diesel unit in the passenger car segment.

Despite the limited torque output, it is capable to produce a higher torque/ cc of displacement than the 1.3-litre, four-cylinder DDiS engine that powers the Swift, Ciaz and Ritz. Maruti Suzuki claims that the Celerio diesel returns a fuel economy of 27.62kmpl (ARAI rated-figure) that makes it India’s most frugal diesel car.

On the other hand, the Celerio petrol is powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder K10B engine, which is good for 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. Transmission options on offer are a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic.
