Maruti Baleno’s Teaser With “A Big Surprise” Tagline – 1.0L Boosterjet?

Maruti Suzuki has released a new teaser video of the Baleno hatchback on the NEXA experience social media handles. The teaser video featuring Baleno has a tagline – “A Big Surprise is Coming Soon”.

This clearly suggests that Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce an exciting update on the Baleno hatchback. However, there is no information about the update. It is expected that the Indo-Japanese brand could introduce a new special edition of the Baleno hatchback to counter the new-gen Hyundai i20. The special edition could receive sporty body kit and upgraded interior

The new-gen i20 comes with 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol as well as 1.5-litre diesel engine option; thus giving multiple options to buyers. Maruti Suzuki could bring back the 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine in BSVI avatar with the Baleno hatchback. The company had discontinued the Boosterjet engine earlier this year. This engine churns out 100.5bhp of power and 150Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki could also introduce a strong hybrid version of the Baleno hatchback.  It is expected to be a 48V “strong hybrid” technology, named “sHEV 48V”. The Baleno with full-hybrid system will be more fuel efficient than the standard model.

The company is also testing the Ertiga and the S-Cross with diesel engine in India. It is reported that the company could bring back the 1.5-litre diesel engine if demand exists. We believe that MSIL will introduce a special edition of the Baleno hatchback to further boost sales during festive season, Diwali.

The current model is available with two engine options – a 82bhp, 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 89bhp, 1.2-litre DualJet petrol with SHVS mild-hybrid system. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
