Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross, the upcoming coupe SUV from the Indo-Japanese automaker, is reported to make its global debut in January. The unveiling is likely to take place at the 2023 Auto Expo that will be held in New Delhi. Its market launch might happen a month after its world premiere – i.e. in February 2023. The report further states that the new Baleno Cross (YTB) will mark return of Maruti Suzuki’s first 1.0L Boosterjet engine that was offered on the first-generation Baleno RS. Just so you, the company discontinued the Maruti Baleno RS before implementation of the BS6 emission norms as the Boosterjet unit wasn’t BS6-compliant. Now, the same motor will make a comeback in its BS6-compliant avatar with mile hybrid technology. It could be offered with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The new Maruti Baleno Cross might also be offered with a naturally aspirated petrol. The motor could be borrowed from the Baleno (1.2L Dualjet) or Ertiga and XL6 MPVs (1.5L Dualjet with mild hybrid system).
The new Baleno Cross will be based on the Maruti Futuro-e concept that first broke cover at the 2020 Auto Expo. While the production-ready model will retain most of its design bits from the concept, a few changes will differentiate it from the Futuro-e.
Upfront, the coupe SUV will feature split headlamps with slim LED DRLs as we have seen on the Grand Virat SUV. Some of its key features will include front grille with inset mesh design, taller and more upright stance, Baleno-sourced alloy wheels, rising waistline, pronounced haunch over the rear wheels etc.
We expect it to come with features such as wireless phone charging, a 360 degree camera, a Head-Up-Display, connected car tech, a touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity, 6 airbags and many more.
