Maruti Suzuki Baleno Alpha CVT Variant Launched; Priced at 8.34 Lakh

Maruti Baleno price in india

After the GST, the pricing of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno starts from Rs 5.26 lakh to Rs 8.42 lakh (ex-showroom, Pan India).

Maruti Suzuki’s highly popular Baleno hatchback has received a new Alpha CVT variant priced at Rs 8.34 lakh (ex-showroom). Till now, the CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) unit was available only on the mid-level Delta and Zeta trims of the carline. The Maruti Baleno Alpha CVT comes loaded with all the comfort and safety features that are standard on the range-topping variant including smartphone linkage Display Audio with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. In MSIL’s Indian portfolio, the Maruti Baleno 2017, Ciaz sedan and Ertiga MPV are available with CVT automatic gearbox options. While the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Alto K10, Celerio and WagonR come with Auto Gear Shift.

Commanding massive popularity in the segment, Baleno recently crossed the 2-lakh unit sales milestone. Interestingly, it achieved the landmark in just 20 months within its launch in India. With an average of monthly sales of 16,000 (in the last three months), the hatchback commands a waiting period of 20 to 21 weeks on select variants. In December last year, Maruti Suzuki India introduced ISOFIX mounts on the hatchback that are being offered as standard across line-up. While the company was rumoured to be working on a SHVS variant, it seems that with the increased cess on hybrids, it may drop the plan.

With the implementation of the GST, the 2017 Maruti Baleno’s prices dropped by up to Rs 13,100. Prior to the new taxation system, the Baleno prices fell in the range of Rs 5.28 lakh to Rs 8.43 lakh, whereas the GST pricing of the hatchback starts from Rs 5.26 lakh to Rs 8.42 lakh (ex-showroom, Pan India). Launched in 2015, the hatchback recently received a sportier variant in the line-up dubbed Baleno RS. With a more powerful engine and subtle cosmetic changes, the Maruti Baleno RS is positioned above the top-spec trim in the carline. As for the prices of the RS version, it has been dropped by Rs 32,000, bringing it down from the previous Rs 8.69 lakh to Rs 8.37 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Pan India).

Maruti Baleno 2017 Exterior

Underpinning Suzuki’s new-generation platform, Maruti Suzuki’s all-new hatchback is light, stiff and quite frugal in nature. Visually, the premium hatchback shares a strong resemblance with the iK-2 concept, which broke cover in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show. At the front fascia, the Maruti Baleno features a V-shaped grille tinted by a strip of chrome which runs into the swept-back head-lamp units. Under the grille lies a sporty looking sculpted front-bumper and projector headlights with follow-me-home. The car has electric folding ORVMs with turn indicators, chrome door handles and alloy wheels.

Features such as projector headlamps, LED daytime running lamps and 16-inch alloys with 195/55 R16 tyres are reserved for the top-spec trim. The lower variant comes fitted with 15-inch wheels and 185/65 R15 front and rear tyres. Other key highlights include a sloping roof, wraparound windows, and a sporty rear. With 3995mm length, 1745mm width and 1500mm height, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a bigger hatch than the Swift. It has a wheelbase of 2,520mm. With a ground clearance of 170mm, the hatchback is claimed to tackle all sorts of Indian terrains. Read – Maruti Ignis – All You Need To Know

Maruti Baleno 2017 Interior

Positioned above the Swift, the Maruti Baleno is more feature-rich, spacious and upmarket than its younger sibling. The neatly-designed dashboard and silver accents on the centre console give it a premium feel. The car’s top-end petrol and diesel variants come with the first-in-class 7-inch SmartPlay infotainment system – Apple CarPlay. While the base variant misses out on Apple CarPlay or TFT cluster, touchscreen display, chrome handles, DRLs and alloy wheels. The Baleno is one of the well-equipped cars in its segment that comes loaded with remote keyless entry, front/rear power windows, auto-up power window for driver, telescopic steering with tilt function, adjustable head rests in front/rear, automatic AC, height adjuster for driver’s seat, socket in front/rear and push start/stop with smart key. Maruti Baleno boot area

The cabin of Maruti Baleno is well illuminated. It has multi-information speedometer display with colour TFT. Thanks to its 2520mm wheelbase, the vehicle offers quite a spacious cabin to all 5 occupants. The thigh support is good and there is plenty of leg room for the passengers seated at the back. The presence of contemporary features has made other things looks go away with which Maruti has made some compromise like buttons with ordinary plastic material. With a boot size of 339 litre, the hatchback offers plenty of space to carry luggage.

Maruti Baleno 2017 Safety Features

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with a host of safety features such as dual airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), anti-theft security system, front disc brakes, dual horn, headlamp leveling, front seat-belt pre-tensioners and force limiters and driver seat belt reminder. So it’s a good news for people who always had a problem with Maruti Suzuki cars not coming with enough standard safety features.

Just so you know, both of its closest rivals – Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz – don’t offer these features as standard. The Baleno’s top-model, additionally, gets reverse parking sensor, reverse parking camera, rear defogger, front fog lamps, auto headlamps, auto diming IRVM, rear wiper and washer and rear defogger.
