The report claims that the Mahindra XUV800 is expected to share the top hat or bodywork with the XUV700. In fact, the electric SUV will have 2,750mm wheelbase and the overall silhouette will be identical to the XUV700. The EV is likely to come with a completely revised front and rear profile, with blanked out front grille and new bumpers and lights.

The new Mahindra XUV800 will be based on the company’s new born-electric skateboard platform. Not just the silhouette, the new XUV800 will share the interior including the seating layout with the Mahindra XUV700. The new skateboard platform will allow a flat floor and the deletion of the transmission tunnel in the XUV800. However, the new model will come with new trim and colour changes on the interior. It is also expected to receive new Mahindra EV-specific infotainment system, which will include personalised comfort presets that owners can change.

It is also expected that the new Mahindra XUV800 will source electric motors and battery cells from Volkswagen’s modular electric platform. The cells will be imported from Volkswagen’s plant in Salzgitter, Germany. Except for the battery cells and motors, all other electric components will be locally made in Mahindra’s plant in Chakan, Maharashtra. The SUV is likely to get a battery capacity of around 77-82kWh, and is expected to offer a range of over 500km. The top-end model is likely to come with a dual-motor powertrain with all-wheel-drive setup.
