Mahindra XUV700 Scores A Perfect 5 Star Crash Test Rating – GNCAP

The Mahindra XUV700 has become the latest made-in-India car to score a full, 5-star rating by the Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Program). Under the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign, the new XUV700 scored 5 stars for adult occupant protection and 4-stars for child occupant protection.

This is the second Mahindra SUV to secure the 5-stars in global NCAP crash test after the Mahindra XUV300. In fact, Mahindra’s 7-seater MPV, Marazzo, has also awarded with a 4-stars crash test rating by Global NCAP.

New Mahindra XUV700 GNCAP

The Mahindra XUV700 used for testing was equipped with most basic safety specification. It was fitted with two airbags, ABS and ISOFIX anchorages. The GNCAP stated that the XUV700 could be improved by adding side body airbags, side head curtain airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and three-point belts in all seating positions as standard.

Mahindra XUV700 Adult Occupant Protection – the new XUV700 is claimed to offer good protection to the driver and passenger’s head, neck and chest. Adding to it, driver and passenger’s knees showed good protection.  Driver tibias showed adequate protection and passenger tibias showed adequate and good protection.

The bodyshell and footwell area of the new XUV700 was rated as stable and they were capable of withstanding further loadings. The car offers standard Seatbelt Reminders (SBR) for driver and passenger. The UN95 test showed that the car could pass the requirements.

XUV700 Crash Test

XUV700 Child Occupant Protection – The child seat for the 3 year old and 1.5 year old were installed rearward facing with ISOFIX anchorages and suport leg. Both are claimed to prevent head exposure during the impact. Child Restraint System marking was ok. The recommended CRSs did not show incompatibility. The vehicle offers lapbelt in the rear centre position.

Mahindra XUV700 Details

The SUV is available in two trim levels – MX and AX – priced between Rs 12.49 lakh and Rs 22.99 lakh. It is offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel. The petrol engine is capable of producing 200bhp and 380Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The diesel engine offers two state of tunes – 155bhp/360Nm with MX trim and 185bhp/420Nm (450Nm with AT) with AX trim. It gets all-wheel-drive system as an optional with top-spec automatic variant.
