Mahindra XUV700 Is The Name For Project W601 – Safari, Hector Rival

Homegrown automaker, Mahindra will launch the second generation XUV500 in the mid-2021. Called Project W601, the new SUV has been officially called the Mahindra XUV700. It is expected that the current generation XUV500 will be sold alongside the upcoming Mahindra XUV700, which has been caught testing numerous times.

The new Mahindra XUV700 will be positioned against the likes of the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari and the soon-to-be-launched Hyundai Alcazar. The new model is rumoured to be equipped with several segment-first features including Level 1 Autonomous Driver Assistance Tech.

The Mahindra XUV700 was earlier planned to be launched in the first half of 2021; however, the launch has been delayed by few months due to global shortage of semi-conductors. The SUV will source the advanced driver assistance tech (ADAS) from the South Korean supplier.

The new XUV700 will be designed and developed on the new front-wheel-drive monocoque platform. It will grow in size, which will result into more space inside the cabin. It is expected that the new Mahindra XUV700 will offer more legroom in the second and third-row.

The ADAS tech will offer features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, lane departure warning and park assist, etc. For safety and security, the SUV will get multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensors, 360 degree camera, ESP and a tyre pressure monitor.

2021 Mahindra XUV500 Launch Date

Key features will include a large touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a digital instrument console, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, etc.

The new Mahindra XUV700 will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
