Mahindra XUV700 EV Testing Begins; 1st Spy Images Out

Mahindra & Mahindra has started testing the XUV700 electric SUV in the country. It’s first prototype was recently caught on camera wearing heavy camouflage in Bangalore. Just so you know, the home-grown automaker unveiled its five electric SUV concepts in August at an event in the UK. These Mahindra electric SUVs will come under the brand’s two sub-brands – XUV.e and BE. The company has already confirmed that the first production-ready XUV.e model (Mahindra XUV700 EV) will hit roads in December 2024 and the first BE EV will arrive in October 2025.

Mahindra XUV.e8 concept, which is essentially the electric version of the XUV700, will be based on the INGLO modular electric skateboard platform. The architecture will underpin the company’s new range of born-electric EVs. The silhouette and design language of the spotted test mule appear similar to its ICE counterpart.

We expect that similar to the concept, its final version will feature a closed-off front grille, bumper mounted headlamps, full-width LED light bars running towards the bumper, a sharply designed bonnet and angular stances. Its interior layout is likely to be similar to the ICE-powered XUV700. Though, the carmaker might make a few EV-specific changes to its cabin.

The concept measures 4740mm in length, 1900mm in width and 1760mm in height with a wheelbase of 2762mm. Compared to the ICE-powered XUV700, the electric SUV is longer, wider and taller. If fact, its wheelbase is slightly longer (by 12mm). Mahindra confirmed that the production-ready Mahindra XUV700 EV will feature the battery pack ranging up to 80kWh. Its power figures will be between 230bhp – 350bhp.

As of now, the Pune-based SUV maker is gearing up to launch the Mahindra XUV400 that’s slated to witness a release in January 2023. It will be the brand’s first pure electric SUV. Initially, it will be launched across select 16 cities. The model will be equipped with a 39.5kWh battery pack offering power worth 148bhp and 310Nm of torque. It’s claimed to deliver a range of 456km (MIDC) on a full charge.
