Mahindra XUV700 7-seater premium SUV will be cheaper than its direct rivals including Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour

Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown automaker is known for making powerful and tough utility vehicles. After ruling the UV segment for more than 2 decades, Mahindra is facing a stiff competition in this segment. In order to further improve sales, the company is planning to launch a range of new SUVs in the Indian car market. Adding to it, Mahindra is also aiming to enter into the highly competitive 7-seater premium segment which is being dominated by Toyota Fortuner & Ford Endeavour. Likely to be called Mahindra XUV700, this 7-seater SUV was first previewed at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo.

– It is actually an SsangYong

While this SUV will be sold under Mahindra nameplate in India, the SUV is actually the global SsangYong Rexton G4. This model was unveiled at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. For people not in the known, Mahindra owns SsangYong but due to low popularity of this Korean brand, the homegrown automaker has decided to launch a rebadged product. – Cheaper Than Toyota Fortuner & Ford Endeavour

This SUV will be brought to India via a CKD (completely Knocked Down) route and will be assembled at Mahindra’s Chakan plant. Like other Mahindra vehicles, the XUV700 is expected to carry an aggressive price tag. It is expected to be priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh, which makes it around 4 to 5 lakh cheaper than the direct competitors like Toyota Fortuner & Ford Endeavour.

– Flagship Mahindra SUV

The upcoming XUV 700 will be the brand’s most expensive model and will be launched as flagship model. It will come with plus interiors and powerful diesel engine. – Feature-loaded cabin

The SUV will be equipped with a host of comfort and convenience features like a touchscreen infotainment system with connected car applications, supervision cluster with customisable MID, ambient lighting, ventilated and heated seats, electric tailgate, wooden inserts, leather seats, etc. Besides, the SUV will also get several class-leading safety features like ABS, EBD, hill-start, hill-descent, ESP, traction control and others. – Engine & Transmission

This SUV will be powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 179bhp and a peak torque of 420Nm. It will also get a Mercedes-Benz sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox along with all-wheel-drive layout.
