Mahindra XUV400 EV Spied – More Details Emerge

Homegrown automaker, Mahindra is working on a wide range of electric SUVs for the Indian as well as global markets. Mahindra has announced to unveil five new global Born electric SUVs on August 15. In fact, the company has released the teasers that shows coupe electric SUVs and a mid-sized electric SUV. Mahindra has also announced to launch an all-new electric SUV, called the Mahindra XUV400 before the end of this financial year.

The new Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV with production body panels have been spotted testing on road. It will be based on the SsangYong’s sourced X100 platform, which underpins the XUV300 compact SUV. While the XUV300 is a sub-4 meter SUV, the Mahindra XUV400 electric will measure around 4.2 meters in length. It will be similar to the SsangYong Tivoli SUV, which is based on the X100 platform.

The increase in size will help Mahindra to create more boot space in the XUV400 electric. The spotted model was fully covered in thick cloth; however, it looks largely identical to the XUV300 electric concept. The XUV300 electric concept was originally showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The front headlights and boomerang-shaped LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) looks identical to the concept. Instead of the LED bulbs in concept, the production version of the SUV will have more practical bulbs.

The Mahindra XUV400 has closed-off front grille and lower bumper design similar to the concept. It has a small air dam at the bottom of the bumper, which was closed off in the concept. The cabin of the new XUV400 will have similarities with the XUV300 EV concept. However, the SUV will have modern design bits and features along with Adreno-X infotainment system.

Mahindra will source the high-energy-dense NMC cells from LG Chem for the upcoming XUV400 electric. These cells are claimed to be superior than the cylindrical LFP cells offered with the Tata Nexon EV. The NMC cells will also help Mahindra to offer more power and a longer range with the new Mahindra XUV400.

The new XUV400 is expected to offer a range of over 400km on a single charge. This will make it a direct rival to the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona EV and the Tata Nexon EV Max. The Nexon EV Max is available at a starting price of Rs 18.34 lakh. The new Mahindra XUV400 electric is expected to be priced around Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
