Mahindra XUV400 7-seater SUV could debut at Auto Expo 2020
Homegrown automaker, Mahindra has recently announced its future product line-up for the European markets. The company has also confirmed that the 7-seater SUV, codenamed S204 will be launched in Europe in the fiscal year 2022. This SUV will also arrive in our market and is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 in the concept form. The launch could take place in the end of 2020 or early 2021.
It will be a longer version of the Mahindra XUV300, which is based on the SsangYong’s X100 platform. This platform also underpins the new Tivoli compact SUV. The new model will follow the SaangYong Tivoli’s strategy. The Tivoli XLV is the longer version of the Tivoli, which has extended rear overhang to free up more space for the boot.
Rumoured to be called the Mahindra XUV400, the new 7-seater Mahindra XUV400 will challenge the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and the Kia Seltos. Hyundai is also readying the long wheelbase version of the Creta, which will come with 7-seat option. The XUV400 7-seater SUV will be positioned as a premium SUV to target the urban audience. In the European market, the S204 will be powered by a 1.5-litre GDI naturally aspirated direct-injection 4-cylinder petrol engine. This engine will also be introduced in the Mahindra Marazzo next year.
Mahindra is also readying the electric version of the XUV300, which will offer a range close to 300km. The electric XUV300 is expected to debut at Auto Expo 2020, while launch likely in the second half of 2020. The company is also working on the next generation XUV500, Scorpio and Thar. All three models will be launched in India in 2020.
