Mahindra Ssangyong Tivoli

Codenamed S201, the new Mahindra XUV300 compact SUV is based on the international-spec SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform.

It has been a while since Mahindra is testing an all-new sub-4 meter SUV in India. Likely to be called Mahindra XUV300, the compact SUV will rival the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and the Ford EcoSport. Codenamed S201, the SUV is based on the international-spec SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform. A production ready model of the SUV has been spotted in Karnataka while getting off-loaded outside a Mahindra dealership. This suggests that the long-awaited SUV is finally ready to go on sale in the market.

Mahindra is also working on a 7-seater derivative of the S201, which will sit above 4 meter in length. The 7-seater model will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. However, the 5-seater mini SUV will first go on sale during festive season – Diwali. Clear interior pictures of the SUV have also been leaked on the internet. The SUV will come with segment leading features, which will give it an upper hand against the competition.

The small SUV will be equipped with segment-first sunroof as stock. Other features will include LED headlamps with daytime running lights, LED tail-lights, leather seats, push-button engine start/keyless entry, 7-airbags and a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity.

The Mahindra S201 compact SUV is reportedly to be the most powerful SUV in its category. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is likely to produce close to 113bhp of power. On the other hand, the petrol version will be equipped with a newly developed 1.2-litre turbocharged engine. This engine will reportedly have a power output of around 140bhp, which will make it the most powerful in its category.
