Mahindra XUV300 Beats Vitara Brezza; Secures Top Spot In Segment

In May 2020, the Mahindra XUV300 managed to outsell the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. Mahindra’s subcompact SUV registered a total sales of 1257 units, which is significantly higher than the Vitara Brezza. The latter one recorded sales of 572 units only.

While the XUV300 became India’s top-selling subcompact SUV, the second spot was secured by the Hyundai Venue with sales of 1242 units. The Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport sales figures stood at 623 units and 331 units respectively. In fact Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza, that has been dominating the segment since its launch, was outnumbered by the Tata Nexon last month.  

BS6 Mahindra XUV300 Diesel

Talking about Mahindra XUV300, the subcompact SUV is currently available with the BS6-compliant 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel engines. While the updated gasoline unit makes a top power of 110bhp against 200Nm of torque, the oil burner pushes out 110bhp with 170Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT unit.

Prices of the petrol variants start from Rs 8.3 lakh (for the entry-level W4) and go up to Rs 11.99 lakh (for the W8 Option dual-tone). The diesel models can be had from Rs 8.69 lakh to Rs 12.69 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. The subcompact SUV comes equipped with several exciting features including 17-inch alloys, electric sunroof, heated ORVMs, multi-mode steering wheel, dual zone climate control, front parking sensors, seat belt reminder for all 4 seats, tyre director indicator, five headrests and all 4 disc brakes. It’s also the first vehicle in its segment to offer 7 airbags along with electronic stability program.

New Mahindra XUV300 Key

In coming months, the carmaker will bring in the more powerful, sportier version of the Mahindra XUV300. Called the Mahindra XUV300 Sportz, the model will also be the brand’s one of the first vehicle to feature the 1.2L mStallion turbocharged petrol engine. Showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, the new engine pushes out a peak power of 130bhp and 230Nm of torque. That said, it will be the most powerful vehicle in its segment.

The company has also planned the electric iteration of the XUV300 that will make its way sometime next year. Powertrain of the Mahindra XUV300 EV will include a 40kW electric motor and a 15.9kWh lithium-ion battery. Its long range version will come with a 60kW battery pack promising a range of over 450km. The SUV’s electric version will be Mahindra’s first model to be designed on the Made-in-India MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture) platform.
