In a bid to regain lost market share, Mahindra is planning to launch a range of new utility vehicles in the country. The company will soon launch a 5-seater compact SUV codenamed S201, a 7-seater premium MPV codenamed U321 and a 7-seater premium SUV based on Rexton. The model we are talking here is the U321 MPV, which has already been spotted testing multiple times. Here are key facts you should know about the upcoming premium MPV –

– Positioned between Maruti Ertiga & Toyota Innova Crysta

The new U321 MPV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 10 lakh – Rs 15 lakh. In terms of pricing, the new model will sit somewhere between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. Currently, there is a huge gap between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta, and the U321 will try to fill the void with aggressive pricing.

– All-new 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine

The Mahindra U321 MPV will mark the debut of the brand’s new petrol and diesel engine options. It will be powered by a newly developed 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which has been co-developed by SsangYong and Mahindra. This engine is likely to produce around 125bhp of power and 305Nm of torque.

– New turbocharged petrol engine

Not just diesel, the new MPV will also mark the introduction of new turbocharged petrol engine. It will be equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo engine that can be tuned to offer a range of power outputs. While powering the U321, this powertrain is expected to deliver around 120bhp of power.

– Designed by Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre

This premium MPV has been designed by Mahindra’s new North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Troy, Michigan. For people not in the know, this MPV will also go on sale in select international markets. In fact, the model has been spotted testing on foreign soil. Expect new model to have excellent build quality and fit and finish.

– Feature-loaded cabin

The new U321 MPV will come equipped with several high-end comfort and convenience features. Going by the spy images, it will come with a dual-tone (Black and Beige) interior theme. Some of the features include a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with voice command, a push button start and multi-functional steering wheel. – Launch Before Festive Season

The upcoming premium MPV is scheduled to be launched by the end of this year. Mahindra officials have confirmed that the launch could take place during festive season, Diwali.

– High On Safety

Set to replace the Xylo, the new Mahindra U321 MPV will come with better structural integrity and high-end safety and security features. The new model will come with dual-front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. This premium MPV will also get reverse camera, reverse parking sensors, hill launch assist, traction control, etc.
