The Mahindra TUV500 7-seater SUV will share its platform, engine and design features with the TUV300.

With an aim to further expand its SUV lineup, Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to bring in a long wheelbase version of the TV300 in India. To be named Mahindra TUV500, this new SUV will share its platform, engine and design elements with its donor sibling – TUV300. Measuring under 4-metres, the TUV500 will come with 7-seats layout and offer a more generous cabin space for occupants. The latest spy pictures reveal that its C-pillar glass area will be longer and bigger than the TUV300. This indicates that the additional space will be acquired by the forward-facing third row of seats. Currently, the TUV300 has jump seats in the boot area which will be replaced by front row seats creating decent legroom.

The compact SUV’s long wheelbase version is likely to get smaller boot space. Feature-wise, the TUV500 will be more loaded than its smaller sibling. The SUV might come with foldable second and third row seats, auto climate control, rear AC vents and possibly a touchscreen infotainment system. Power source for the new Mahindra SUV will be the same 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine that does duty in the TUV300. This motor churns out a top power of 100bhp and 240Nm of torque. Mahindra might also introduce the 1.99-litre mHawk and 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engines on the SUV. Transmission options on offer will include a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox.

In Mahindra’s product lineup, the TUV500 will be positioned alongside the upcoming U321 premium MPV. With rugged styling and efficient powertrain, the new Mahindra SUV will target the entry-level SUV buyers looking for a spacious 7-seater family car.
