Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of its flagship SUV – codenamed Y400 – in October 2019. Adding to it, Mahindra will launch a sub-4 meter SUV – codenamed S201 – to challenge the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon in the first quarter of 2019. What’s more interesting is that the homegrown automaker is also working on an all-new 5-seater premium SUV to challenge the Hyundai Creta. Though the exact launch timeline is yet to be revealed, a possible launch in late 2019 or early 2020 can’t be ignored.
The new SUV will be based on SsangYong’s X100 platform that also underpins the upcoming sub-4 meter SUV. This model will be slotted between the S201 and the XUV500. While Scorpio is more popular amongst semi-urban and rural India, the upcoming 5-seater SUV will target the urban class. The new model is expected to come with BS6 ready engines. It is most likely to share the diesel engine with the Marazzo MPV, which is a 1.5-litre turbodiesel unit. This engine is capable of producing 121bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The petrol version will also come, but specs are yet to be revealed. Not just new models, Mahindra will also launch the upgraded versions of the TUV300 and KUV100 in 2019.
The new SUV is expected to come equipped with several high-end features including 7 airbags, LED lighting, electric sunroof, electrically adjustable drivers’ seat, leather upholstery, and an advanced touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
