Only 700 units of Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will be developed

Mahindra has started working on the next-generation Thar SUV, which has been spotted multiple times during its test rounds. The company will soon launch the new Thar Signature Edition to mark the end of production of the first-gen Thar. The Mahindra Thar was first launched in 2010.

The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will be powered by a 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Production of this special edition will be limited to only 700 units. The report claims that the SUV will be available in 2 exclusive paint schemes – Napoli Black and Aqua Marine. The Signature Edition will ride on newly developed 5-spoike, 15-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle will come with black decals on the bonnet lid and silver finish on the front bumper. There will be a special ‘Signature Edition’ badge on the fenders with the signature of Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group.

The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will have spacious interior and will get front facing rear seats. It will also receive newly designed leatherette seat covers. This model will also get ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) as standard. The current Thar won’t be compliant with upcoming crash test norms and will not be eligible for sale post-October 1, 2019. The next-generation Mahindra Thar is expected to be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. The SUV will be based on the new GEN 3 platform, which also underpins the Scorpio and the TUV300. It will receive the newly developed diesel engine, which is expected to produce around 140bhp of power. The company is also considering the petrol version of the Thar.
