Mahindra Thar DI Discontinued In India
Mahindra Thar lacks basic safety features including airbag, ABS and EBD.
The Mahindra Thar was first launched in India in October 2010 and has since been a popular vehicle especially among off-road enthusiasts. The SUV has been favoured for its rugged body-build and off-road capabilities. However, the Thar lacks basic safety features including airbag, ABS (anti-lock braking system) and EBD (electronic brake-force distribution). While the Thar DI 2WD variant was priced at Rs 6.72 lakh, the 4WD trim was available at Rs 7.24 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. Powering the discontinued trim was a 2.5L DI engine that’s good for 63PS and 195Nm. Now, the off-road is available in a single CRDe variant that comes with a 2.5L CRDe engine pushing out 105PS and 247Nm of torque. The Mahindra That CRDe comes with a price tag of Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The home-grown carmaker has already started working on the new-generation Mahindra Thar that’s currently in its testing phase. Reports suggest that the all-new Thar might make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, followed by its launch. The off-roader’s new model will be based on M&M’s Gen3 chassis and feature a new BS6-ready 140bhp, 2.0L diesel engine.
With safety features like airbag, speed warning and rear parking sensors, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will comply with the crash test norms. The off-roader SUV will also see major design changes and feature upgrades including Jeep Wrangler’s inspired front end, pronounced wheel arches, all black interior, a large touchscreen, etc.
