Mahindra Scorpio AT launch in Q1, 2015

New Mahindra Scorpio front fascia

The homegrown automaker, Mahindra is gearing up to launch the automatic variant of the newly launched Scorpio SUV in the country. The company launched the new Scorpio in September, which has received an overwhelming response from buyers across the nation.

The new Scorpio is offered in six variants, all in manual version. Power comes from the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and 2.5-litre M2DICR (only base S2 trim) diesel engines. Both engines are paired to a new 5-speed manual gearbox which sends the power to rear wheels of the SUV. The company is now aiming to offer more option to buyers by introducing the automatic version of the Scorpio. A six-speed automatic gearbox driving the power to rear wheels is likely to be offered on the top-spec variant in the line-up. It is expected that the Scorpio AT will hit the Indian shores in the first quarter of 2015.

The new Scorpio Automatic is expected to be priced around Rs. 1 lakh more than the current top-end manual model. The 2.2-litre mHawk engine is capable of producing a top power output of 120bhp and 280Nm of torque. If media reports are to be believed, the new Scorpio AT could use the new 6-speed unit that is developed by Ssangyong for the new X100 compact SUV.  The automatic model largely remains the same, and it features ‘automatic’ badging on the front door cladding which was also on offer on the previous Scorpio AT.
