Mahindra S210 & Hyundai STYX Electric SUVs Coming In 2020
Mahindra S210 electric SUV based on the XUV300 platform is likely to debut at 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.
We informed you earlier that Mahindra and Hyundai will launch their respective sub-4 meter SUVs in India this year. While Mahindra will launch the XUV300 in February, Hyundai will bring the STYX compact SUV in the second quarter of 2019. The much-anticipated Mahindra XUV300 has already been revealed in exterior and interior pictures. In fact, the SUV has been spotted at multiple occassions at dealerships. It is based on the SsangYong’s X100 platform that underpins the Tivoli compact SUV.
Hyundai hasn’t revealed anything on the upcoming compact SUV. The Hyundai Styx compact SUV is scheduled to make its global debut at the 2019 New York Motor Show on April 17. It is expected to arrive in India in May-June 2019. It will be based on the new-gen Santro’s platform, which will also underpin the next-gen Grand i10. Media reports claim that this platform could also be used to develop a new MPV for India, Europe and Korean market.
What’s interesting is that both automakers are also working on electric versions of the XUV300 and Styx compact SUVs. Mahindra has officially announced that the XUV300 platform based electric SUV, codenamed S210, will arrive in 2020. This electric SUV is most likely to make its global debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo, while launch could take place in the second quarter. Previous media reports claim that the new Mahindra S210 electric SUV will offer a range of 250km on a single changer under the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle). It will accelerate to 100kmph from zero in just 11 seconds and can achieve a maximum speed of 150kmph.
On the other side, Hyundai is likely to introduce the STYX based electric SUV in global markets first. It is yet to be confirmed whether this EV will come to India or not. However, the company could bring this electric model as an affordable electric SUV in India. Hyundai will soon introduce its Kona SUV as its first electric model in India.
