Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of much-awaited sub-4 meter SUV – codenamed S201. This SUV is based on SsangYong’s X100 platform that also underpins the Tivoli compact SUV. The model has been spotted testing several times on roads, revealing most of the details about the vehicle. Recently, Mahindra has organized a preview to review their upcoming Compact SUV and one of the Team-BHP members was invited to review this upcoming SUV. Design
According to Team-BHP member, the new model gets XUV500 like grille. While the front bumper and bonnet look like the European-spec Tivoli. Adding to it, the SUV is equipped with front parking sensors. It features newly developed LED daytime running lights, which is a two-piece unit that extends from the projector headlamp till the front bumper.
On sides, the SUV resembles the Tivoli featuring similar cuts and creases and pronounced wheel arches. The test-drive model was equipped with 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, while the C-pillar is very thick and there is no quarter-glass. The rear profile is completely re-developed and looks fresh. Interior
The report claims that the ingress and egress to both front and back seats are easy. The cabin space and lumber support is in-line with Maruti Vitara Brezza. The IRVM is an ECM unit and the visibility is not good due to the small rear glass.
The SUV is equipped with leather seats, push-button engine start/keyless entry, sunroof and 7-airbags. The reviewer claims that the interior’s plastic quality is better than the Vitara Brezza. The SUV also has decent storage spaces to keep water bottles in all-4 doors. The chromed centre console has lots of buttons, which are small in size and are bit confusing as well. It also gets MID in the middle of twin-pod instrument cluster. The MID displays angle of the steering-wheel in ignition mode. It features multi-functional steering wheel. Engine
The Mahindra S201 is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 113bhp of power. The report claims that the cabin insulation is very good. The suspension was on softer side to tackle Indian road conditions. The SUV also gets all-4 disc brakes.
