Mahindra S201 Compact SUV Official Name To Announce On 1st December
Mahindra is reported to share S201’s petrol engine with Ford for its upcoming SUV.
Mahindra & Mahindra is on a roll. The home-grown carmaker introduced the Mahindra Marazzo premium MPV in October, followed by its flagship SUV – Mahindra Alturas G4. Now, the company is gearing up to launch an all-new sub-4 metre SUV – Mahindra S201 (codename). This new compact SUV will be gun up straight against the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport.
The home-grown carmaker will unveil the official name of the Mahindra S201 compact SUV on December 1, 2018. The vehicle is slated to launch early next year, possibly in March, 2019. Based on the SsangYong Tivoli platform, the compact SUV will come with both petrol and diesel engine options. While the diesel motor will be borrowed from the Mahindra Marazzo, the petrol will be all-new unit.
That means, the Mahindra S201 diesel will source its power from a 1.5L engine that could be detuned by the carmaker. Roumor has it that it could a small capacity 1.2L turbocharged engine. If reports are to be believed, Mahindra S201 will be packed with several segment-first features including seven airbags (as standard), four-wheel disc brakes and a panoramic sunroof. One must note that the official feature details are yet to be revealed by the carmaker. Safety features such as rear parking sensors, electronic stability program (ESP) and anti-lock braking system (ABS) will also be on offer.
