It has been a while since Mahindra has been testing its much anticipated compact SUV S101 on the Indian roads. The vehicle will make its Indian debut by second half of 2015. Moreover, the company will also launch a new SUV S102 and it is reported that both the SUVs will be manufactured at the company’s new manufacturing unit in Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu. If media reports to believe, Mahindra is working on a new range of petrol engines which will power the future range of Mahindra cars in India. This new engine range is being co-developed with Ssangyong.
The new petrol engine family is likely to include three engines ranging from 1.2 to 1.6 litres. The 1.2-litre motor will be a three cylinder engine that will power the Mahindra S101 and S102 compact SUV. The Mahindra’s new small compact SUV will be sold alongside Quanto SUV. The 4-cylinder engine will also power the upcoming Ssangyong X100 SUV.
The vehicle has recently been spotted with the production body parts such as bumpers, dual barrel headlamps and tailgate. The rear profile of the compact SUV will also get the spare wheel. The front fascia gets large headlamps with LED daytime running lights that also resemble the XUV500.
The S101/S102 will be the second Mahindra product to be based on monocoque chassis and is based on a new platform. This model also gets 1.5-litre diesel engine.
