The homegrown auto maker, Mahindra will launch the new S101 Micro SUV in the Indian car market next year. With the S101 Micro SUV, Mahindra targets B-segment hatchbacks. If media reports are to be believed, the upcoming S101 SUV will feature both petrol and turbo diesel fuel options.

The gasoline version of the Mahindra S101 Micro SUV would get a brand new 1.2-litre unit, which is developed by Mahindra-Ssangyong’s joint venture. The recent trend suggests that the demand for petrol cars are again on rise, thanks to a narrowing gap between petrol and diesel fuels. With this petrol motor, the company aims to capitalize on the growing demand for petrol driven cars.

The turbo diesel engine would be the 1.5-litre 3-cylinder motor that also powers the Quanto compact SUV. This engine is capable of producing a top power output of 98.6bhp and a peak torque of 240Nm. However, the company might de-tune this engine to offer better performance. Both petrol and diesel engines are likely to feature the front wheel drive layout and five-speed manual transmission as standard. The S101 will be based on the monocoque body construction, which will help the company to offer high fuel efficiency.

The Mahindra S101 Micro SUV is expected to be priced around Rs. 5 lakh. Interestingly, the company is also aiming to launch all-new Quanto SUV and a possible replacement for Bolero SUV in the country in 2015-16.
