We reported earlier that Mahindra will launch the all-new Quanto SUV in the country in mid-2015. Before that, the homegrown auto major will launch the Quanto compact UV with an AMT (Automated manual transmission) gearbox. If media reports are to be believed, the Mahindra is aiming to launch the AMT version of the compact UV by year end. [Also Read- New Mahindra Scorpio launched]
Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the Quanto AMT will be the country’s first utility vehicle to feature AMT gearbox. The all-new 5-speed autoshift transmission has been developed in association with Ricardo. The new autoshift transmission will offer the convenience of an automatic gearbox along with the feel of a manual transmission. This gearbox is equipped with an electronic control and hydraulic actuation system that allows the driver to shift gears automatically and returns better mileage. Driver can shift gears either automatically or manually.
The costing of AMT is much less than conventional automatic transmission, which will allow Mahindra to offer clutch-less feel to Quanto buyers at reasonable cost. Under the bonnet is the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine that is capable of producing a top power output of 98.6bhp and a peak torque of 240Nm.
