Mahindra Quanto AMT coming soon

Mahindra Quanto AMT

India’s leading Utility vehicle maker, Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch the AMT version of its Quanto MPV in the Indian car market. At the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the company displayed the Quanto with an all new 5-Speed Autoshift transmission which has been developed in association with Ricardo. Quanto was the first compact utility vehicle in the market launched before EcoSport and Duster, however, it failed to generate sales volume. With AMT, the company aims to revive its sales in India.

The new autoshift transmission has been developed by the company to offer the convenience of an automatic gearbox along with the feel of a manual transmission. This gearbox features an electronic control and hydraulic actuation system that allows the driver to changes gears automatically and offers a better fuel efficiency. Driver can shift gears either automatically or manually.

The AMT which will come with Quanto is very similar to the one found on the Celerio. Moreover, the Quanto will be the first in segment to provide the automated manual transmission. What make it an interesting feature is that it costs much less than a conventional automatic transmission which will allow the manufacturer to provide AMT variants at reasonable cost.

Mahindra Quanto is powered by a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 98.6bhp and a peak torque of 240Nm. It is also expected that Mahindra could launch its existing vehicles with AMT gearbox.
