Aiming to expand its product portfolio, Mahindra & Mahindra will launch four new models by the next financial year. Out of them, the two big products – Mahindra U321 MPV and Mahindra S201 compact SUV – will see a release by the end of this year. The information comes from Dr. Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra who was interviewed by an online media publication.
According to reports, the new Mahindra S201 compact SUV will come with two seating options – 5-seats and 7-seats. While the 5-seater version will be stacked up against the Tata Nexon and Ford ExpoSport, the 7-seater model will take on the Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass. The former will be the first one to arrive in the market.
Measuring below 4-meter in length, the new Mahindra 5-seater SUV is reported to come with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version could be powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that will be good for 140bhp. This will also make it India’s most powerful compact SUV. On the other hand, the Mahindra U321 MPV could debut with Mahindra’s new 1.6-litre mFalcon diesel powertrain developed jointly by Mahindra and SsangYong. The power and torque figure of this unit will stand at 125bhp and 305Nm respectively. The U321 could be introduced as a replacement to the Xylo, and will be positioned against the Toyota Innova Crysta.
Besides these two new models, the home-grown carmaker will bring in the fully-flagged XUV700 SUV that will take on the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, this new 7-seater SUV will make use of a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine borrowed from the SsangYong Rexton. Though, its official launch details hasn’t yet revealed by the carmaker.
