Mahindra’s Next Premium MPV To Feature 1.5L Petrol Engine

Mahindra’s next premium MPV – codenamed U321 – is expected to feature a newly developed 1.5-litre petrol engine that can produce up to 163PS of power

We informed you earlier that Mahindra will offer petrol engine options with its entire portfolio in the Indian market. If media reports are to be believed, Mahindra is working on four new petrol engines, starting from 0.6-litre 1-cylinder to 2.0-litre 4-cylinder.

The 0.6-litre single-cylinder petrol engine offers a maximum power output of around 27.19PS. This engine is expected to power Mahindra’s small utility vehicles. The other engine, 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine will offer power output up to 135bhp. This engine will power the upcoming S201 compact SUV. The report further suggests that the company is also working on a secret model – codenamed S106.

Besides, the homegrown UV maker is also working on a new 1.5-litre petrol engine, which will come in two versions – TGDI and MPFI. This engine can produce up to 163.15PS of maximum power. Report further claims that this engine will power the company’s next premium MPV – codenamed U321/U322. The most powerful 2.0-litre TGDI unit will offer a top power output of 217.54PS. This engine will power the upcoming Mahindra XUV700.

For people not in the known, Mahindra will soon launch a new premium MPV – codenamed U321 – in the Indian market. This model will come as a replacement for the ageing Xylo. Media reports claim that the new MPV will be positioned somewhere between Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. Besides petrol engine, this MPV will receive a newly developed 1.6-litre diesel engine. This engine is expected to produce around 120bhp of power and over 250Nm of torque. Both automatic and manual versions will be on offer.
