Mahindra Marazzo Petrol Spotted For the First Time; Launch Soon

Mahindra Marazzo Petrol Launch

In September 2018, Mahindra & Mahindra introduced the Marazzo MPV only with a diesel engine. Answering questions at the launch event, the carmaker had confirmed that it will bring in the petrol version of the MPV before the BS6 emission norms will be implemented (i.e. from 1st April, 2020). The Mahindra Marazzo petrol is likely to come with an automatic gearbox.

Ahead of its launch, the Mahindra Marazzo petrol has been spotted testing without any camouflage in the country. Powering the MPV will be the brand’s new 1.5L turbocharged mStallion petrol engine that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The gasoline motor has been tuned for generating power worth 163PS and 280Nm of torque.

Mahindra’s mStallion engine range also includes a 1.2L and a 2.0L motor that will be offered on the new-generation Thar and XUV500 and Scorpio respectively. The powertrains are benefited with TGDi (turbo gasoline direct injection) technology and overboost function. The mStallion engines will also be used by Ford Motor India and Sasangyong.

Currently, the Marazzo comes with a 1.5L diesel engine that’s good enough for 121bhp and 300Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard across the range. In terms of design and features, the Mahindra Marazzo petrol will be exactly similar to the diesel model.

Mahindra Marazzo Front

Built on body-on-frame architecture, the Marazzo has a transverse-mounted engine that powers the front wheels. Unlike the conventional ladder-on-frame vehicles which are usually heavier, the MPV weighs equal to a monocoque vehicle. It has been achieved by eliminating the heavy rear axle and propeller shaft. Moreover, the MPV has been composed of 52% high tensile steel that further reduces its weight and enhances its safety quotient. All variants come with dual front airbags, a passenger airbag off-switch, ABS with EBD and brake assist, a speed sensitive door lock/unlock and Isofix child seat mounts. Features such as cruise control and reverse camera with display are reserved for the top-end variants.
