Mahindra SUVs Get Cheaper By 6.9% – GST Impact

Post Goods & Service Tax (GST) implementation, Mahindra has reduced prices of its utility vehicles and SUVs by 6.9 per cent.

Following the price reduction announced by car makers in India post implementation of Goods and Services tax on July 1st, UV giant, Mahindra & Mahindra also revealed revised prices across its passenger cars and commercial vehicles. This mostly includes large utility vehicles and SUVs, prices of which have been cut by up to 6.9 per cent on an average. On the other hand, the prices of its vehicles that come under small car space, have been slashed by up to 1.4 per cent. Aside from UVs and SUVs, Mahindra also announced price cut for its commercial vehicle range that sees reduction by up to 1.1 per cent opposed to 0.5 per cent for the light commercial vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles.

It is to be noted that Mahindra Scorpio and XUV500, with 4m and above length now come under the cess bracket of 43 per cent. Relatively, there is a drop of about 12 per cent compared to the previous tax. While Mahindra’s subcompact SUVs, such as Mahindra NuvoSport and Mahindra TUV300 with 1.5-litre diesel engines fall under the 15 per cent tax slab, with a minor reduction of up to 1.7 per cent, its mini-SUV, KUV100 with 1.2-litre petrol & diesel units, falls in the cess band of just 1 per cent.

The hybrid vehicles in its line-up also witness marginal price hike. One must note that the price change across vehicles will differ from state to state. Meanwhile, the prices of Mahindra tractors remain unchanged.

With the new tax reform, the auto industry is positive about the growth in sales in the coming months, owning to reduction is price across segments, barring hybrids. While most of the car manufacturers have already revealed reduced priced for their models, even the two-wheeler companies have passed on the benefits to the customers. However, bikes with over 350cc capacity engine have witnessed hike in price.
