For people not in the know, Mahindra acquired the UK-based two-wheeler manufacturer BSA Company in October 2016. The two-wheeler maker took possession of 100 per cent shares capital of BSA Company via its Indian brand, Class Legends Private Limited. The home-grown automaker purchased all 1.2 lakh shares of the company with a total investment of 34 lakh pounds – i.e. around Rs 28 crore.
Under this acquisition, Mahindra’s subsidiary brand Classic Legends obtained the license of the BSA Company, and will use the same for marketing, selling and distribution bikes across the globe. The company had announced that the first BSA motorcycle will be a global model that will be launched in Italy, US and the UK. Interestingly, this new BSA bike will not be produced and launched in the Indian market. Read – Yezdi Motorcycles Are Coming Back
Mahindra is now focusing towards premium niche segments, and untapped markets with its new acquisitions – BSA Company and Jawa Moto. Jawa brand has always been admired for its classic looking motorcycles. Production of the new Jawa bikes will take place at Mahindra’s Pithampur facility. The two-wheeler maker had announced that it will bring the first Jawa bike in India towards the end of 2018.
