Mahindra Bolero Power+ to Target Rural Areas

Launched as sub-4 metre SUV, the Mahindra Bolero Power+ (Plus) is powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk70 diesel engine producing 70bhp & 195Nm of torque.

Mahindra Bolero Power+ compact SUV was recently launched in India within the price range of Rs 6.59 lakh – Rs 7.57 lakh (ex-shworoom, Mumbai). Available in three grades – SLE, SLX and ZLX – this sub-4 metre SUV is benefited with Mahindra’s Mild Hybrid system that we have already seen in the Scorpio. With the approaching festive season, Mahindra & Mahindra plans 12 regional launches for the new Bolero Power+ in the country. As for now, the company is preparing inventory of all its models including the Bolero Power+. Along with this, the home-grown also plans to introduce a new sales strategy – Mahindra Mitra Program – to target rural and semi rural areas including 3,000 tehsils in India.

Speaking to an online media channel, Veejay Ram Nakra, Senior Vice-president, Sales & Customer Care, automotive sector, M&M said that “The new Bolero models can be booked and are available for retail starting today. The existing Bolero models will, however, continue to sell alongside the new model variants and over a period of time, based on the market dynamics, we will take a call on the old models. Nevertheless, I would like to clarify that there is a large section that currently uses the Bolero models in the upcountry areas for transportation of people. So for that we have certain variants of the Bolero that will continue to sell in their existing avatars,”.

Since the new Bolero Power+ is a sub-4 metre SUV, it enables manufacturer to avail excise benefit offered on SUVs under 4 metre in length in India. The new model is priced at Rs 6.59 lakh for the base variant, and Rs. 7.57 lakh for the top-spec model.  With new Bolero Power+, the homegrown SUV maker will take on the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Hyundai Creta.

Powering Bolero’s new model is a new 1.5-litre mHawk70 3-cylinder diesel engine, which is a detuned version of the existing mHawk80 engine. This power mill belts out a peak power of 70bhp at 3,600rpm and 195Nm of torque between 1400-2200rpm. It is the same engine that also powers the TUV300 and the Nuvosport. The vehicle is also benefited with Mahindra’s new micro-hybrid technology that helps it achieving higher fuel efficiency. On papers, the new Mahindra Bolero Power Plus is more powerful (13%) than the regular model. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Bolero Power+ SUV’s smaller engine is supplemented with Mahindra’s Micro Hybrid system, which makes it 5% more fuel efficient than the existing Bolero. It is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 16.5kmpl (ARAI).

Mahindra Bolero Power Plus (Power+) Exterior & Interior

The new Mahindra Bolero Power Plus looks largely similar to the current Bolero model. However, there are subtle changes to keep things fresh in the market. The vehicle features a revised bumper design, re-profiled grille and slightly tweaked headlamps. It also get new body decals. Mahindra has trim down its front and rear overhangs to make it a sub-4 metre vehicle; however, the wheelbase of the SUV remains unchanged – i.e. 2,680mm. Dimensions of the Mahindra Bolero Power+ measures 3,995mm in length, 1,745mm in width and 1,880mm in height. Its wheelbase stands at 2,680mm.

There are no interior images of the SUV available, but the vehicle get feature upgrades. The Power Plus continues to feature the same dashboard design, digital instrument cluster and 7-seat layout. Features like an engine immobilizer, music system, voice messaging system, body decals and better seat cushioning are also on offer.
