Mahindra Ford Aspire Electric

Mahindra & Mahindra recently announced that the company will launch 3 all-new electric cars by 2021. The lineup will include Mahindra KUV100 EV, Mahindra XUV300 EV and a Mahindra-badged electric iteration of the Ford Aspire sedan. While the KUV100 EV is scheduled to go on sale by the end of this year, the XUV300 electric will hit roads sometime next year. Mahindra badged Ford Aspire electric will see a release in 2021.

In March 2018, Mahindra and Ford had signed an MOU to develop two new SUVs (midsized and compact) along with a new electric vehicle for the Indian market. While Mahindra Electric will provide technology for developing new electric vehicles, Ford will supply vehicles’ platforms. The home-grown carmaker has already revealed that Mahindra Electric will focus on developing electric powertrains, battery packs and power electronics.

Mahindra badged electric version of the Ford Aspire will be the first electric product to roll out under this alliance. Details of the vehicle are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to get subtle updates inside and out along with an electric powertrain. Read – Ford C-SUV To Share 75% Components With Next-Gen Mahindra XUV500

The home-grown carmaker allocated an investment of Rs 400 crore to Mahindra Electric for establishing a global Research & Development (R&D) centre in Alur near Bangaluru in the coming years. This facility will serve as the hardware and technological development hub for all electric vehicles developed under Mahindra and Mahindra-Ford joint venture. With an investment of Rs 500 crores, Mahindra & Mahindra will produce electric version of KUV100 and XUV300 SUVs at its Chakan plant.
