Mahindra Alturas, the flagship from the home-grown carmaker, was introduced in India in December last year. The fully-fledged SUV comes in two variants – 2WD and 4WD – with a 2.2L diesel engine that’s good for 178bhp and 420Nm. Both trims get a Mercedes-Benz sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox. The Alturas’ diesel powertrain, which is currently BS4-compliant, can be easily calibrated to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. The carmaker has already started testing the BS6-complaint Mahindra Alturas.
Just so you know, the Bharat Stage VI (BS6) emission norms will be enforced in India from April 1st 2020. Mahindra & Mahindra has already confirmed that it will launch petrol BS6 models first, followed by the BS6-ready diesel engines. The carmaker has 8 BS6-compliant diesel powertrains (including two all-new engines) that will be used over 16 platforms and 38 variants. It will include passenger and light commercial vehicles along with 3 brand new products.
Talking about the Mahindra Alturas, the 7-seater SUV is essentially the new-generation Ssangyong Rexton G4 that’s sold in other markets. It has premium styling with bold stances and robust body built. Dimensionally, it’s longer and wider than the Toyota Fortuner. The Alturas offers first-in-segment electronic parking brake along with safety features such as 9 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill assist and more. Read – 4 New Mahindra SUVs To Debut At Auto Expo 2020
