Looking For a Family Car (MPV)? – 3 New Models Coming In

7-seater family cars (MPVs) are quite popular among Indian buyers. These vehicles have always been favoured for their big-size cabin, seating comfort and practicality. If you are planning to purchase one, there are three new MPVs which are worth waiting for. Maruti Suzuki will introduce its first rebadged Toyota (Engage) in the month of July, Toyota might bring in the Maruti Ertiga’s rebadged version – Toyota Rumion towards the end of 2023. Kia hasn’t yet confirmed the launch timeline of the new-generation Carnival luxury MPV, but it’s reported to go on sale in late 2023 or in H1, 2024. Maruti Suzuki Engage

Upcoming Maruti MPV

Maruti Suzuki Engage will be the new flagship model in the company’s product portfolio. The MPV will be offered with the 2.0L, 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle and 2.0L petrol engine options. The strong hybrid version with an e-Drive transmission offers power worth 184bhp and a mileage of 23.24kmpl. The regular gasoline unit produces a maximum power of 172bhp and promises a fuel efficiency of 16.13kmpl. Based on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform, the family car will be the first model from Maruti Suzuki to offer ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) tech. Toyota Rumion

Toyota Rumion MPV specs

If media reports are to be believed, Toyota Kirloskar Motor might introduce the Rumion 7-seater family car in the second half of this year. It’s essentially the rebadged Maruti Ertiga that’s already on sale in the South Africa. The MPV comes with a few design changes such as a newly-designed grille with Toyota’s signature badge. Unlike the Ertiga, the Toyota Rumion has black interior theme with wooden trim. Under the hood, the model houses the same 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild hybrid tech. The setup delivers a maximum power of 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer. More details here…

2023 Kia Carnival India Launch

The fourth-generation Kia Carnival is currently in its testing phase and one of its test mules was caught on camera in South Korean. The MPV comes with significantly updated design, especially the front fascia. The model features new, vertically positioned headlamps (inspired by the new Kia EV9), revised LED DRLs and updated bonnet with more creases. While its alloy wheels are similar to the existing model, the MPV gets an inverted L-shaped, newly-designed taillamps. The existing engine setup is likely to be carried forward to the new-generation that includes a turbo diesel motor making 199bhp and 440Nm. Compared the previous unit that has cast iron block, the new oil burner with aluminium block weighs 20kg lighter. More details here…
