Land Rover, the British luxury carmaker has finally launched the much-awaited new Discover Sport SUV in India. The new Discovery Sport is available in four trim levels – S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury. While the base variant is priced at INR 46.10 lakh (ex-Mumbai), the range-topping seven-seater HSE luxury variant is tagged at INR 62.18 lakh (ex-Mumbai). The SUV will come as a replacement for the ageing Freelander 2.
The Discover Sport is 90mm longer than the Evoque and has 80mm longer wheelbase, which converts into a spacious cabin. This SUV shares most of its styling features from the Range Rover family including clamshell bonnet, the sculpted grille and the slim headlamp. The interior styling of the SUV seems inspired from other Land Rovers, but it gets new controls for switchgears. It features a slim dashboard which is split by the wide centre stack.
The premium SUV is available in two seating configuration – 5 and 7. While the range-topping variants – SE, HSE and HSE Luxury- are available in both five and seven-seat configurations, the base variant is only available with five seats. With second row seat folded flat, the SUV offers an impressive boot space of 1887mm.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport 2015 is available with two engine options – a 2.2L TD4 and a 2.2L SD4. Only the top-end HSE Luxury variant is equipped with the SD4 engine. The TD4 engine is capable of producing 147bhp of power and 400Nm of torque, while the SD4 motor produces 187bhp and 420Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to all-4 wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
