The Korean automaker, Kia has launched the new EV6 electric crossover via CBU route in the Indian market. The new Kia EV6 is offered in two variants – RWD and AWD – priced at Rs 59.95 lakh and Rs 64.95 lakh respectively. The company believes that EV sales will hit close to 2 lakh mark annually by 2025 with an estimated penetration of around 5% in the total PV sales.
Kia claims to have received 355 bookings for the new EV6 electric crossover. Deliveries of the 100 EV6 units are scheduled to commence from September 2022. Due to global supply chain issue, Kia is unable to share the definite timeline for the deliveries of the extra 255 bookings. The company has also opened 15 EV dealerships across 12 cities and have installed 150kW charger within each of the dealerships.
Kia has also confirmed that it is developing an India-centric EV in RV body type. The new model will be launched in the country by 2025. RV stands for “Recreational Vehicle”. Kia is already marketing the Carens MPV as the Recreational Vehicle. The new model could be based on the modified version of the existing ICE platform.
Previous media report claims that Kia is planning to launch a small SUV EV in the country. Codenamed AY, the new Kia small electric SUV is expected to be launched in 2025. In fact, development work of the EV has kicked off. The new electric vehicle will be based on a flexible platform, which will also underpin a mass market entry-level petrol SUV.
