The production version of the SP SUV is likely to be called Kia Trailster

Korean automaker, Kia will officially launch its first product in India this year. The company is yet to announce the exact launch date, but it is expected that the Kia SP based SUV will arrive by August-September 2019. Likely to be called Kia Trailster, the Kia SP SUV is reportedly to make its India debut on June 20, 2019. For people not in the know, the Kia SUV was first unveiled at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo as the SP concept.

Kia had showcased the SP Signature concept at the 2019 Seoul Motor Show. It is claimed that this concept is the near production version of the Trailster. The Kia SP Signature edition comes with several production-ready parts, which looks considerably different from the SP concept unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018.

The production-ready Kia SP SUV will get new door handles, sleeker headlamps and new front and rear bumpers, which looks like production ready. Similar to the one unveiled in India, the Kia SP Signature is wrapped in orange exterior paint. The SUV gets signature Tiger nose grille, sharp looking LED headlamps and daytime running lights on the bumper. The vehicle gets contrasting black roof and black outside rear view mirrors. The SUV will also get newly designed 17-inch alliy wheels. There is a prominent chrome strip on the tailgate and LED tail-lights. Faux exhaust tips are placed into the contrasting rear bumper, which also features a bash plate-style treatment.

Kia hasn’t revealed the interior of the SP Signature, but it is expected to receive several segment-leading features. The SUV is likely to get a large touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and in-car WiFi. The top-spec model is likely to get a head-up display and a fully digital instrument cluster. Also See – Kia Carnival India Launch and Other Details

The Kia SP SUV is expected to be powered by a newly developed 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. The engines are likely to be BSVI ready. Both manual and automatic versions of the SUV will be on offer. Previous media reports claim that the Kia SP could also receive a sportier variant, which will receive a 140bhp, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine paired to a 7-speed DCT with paddle shifters. The Kia SP is expected to be priced between Rs 10 and Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur and Tata Harrier.
