Is This The Production-spec Kia SP?

Kia Motors unveiled its entire range for the Indian market at the Auto Expo in February, 2018. The South Korean carmaker also confirmed that its first product will be a compact SUV based on the SP concept that made its debut at the biennial event. In India, the Kia SP will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster and Captur.

While the launch of the SUV is scheduled to happen by mid 2019, the first spy pictures its production-spec model have been emerged on the web. Though, the spotted model is a Left-hand-drive (LHD) version with heavy camouflage produced for the export markets.

Unlike the concept avatar that features rectangular tiger-nose grille, the production-ready model wears Geely inspired grille. Though, it is likely to retain most of its design bits from the concept version. Currently, Kia is setting up its production plant at Yerramanchi village at Penugonda mandal of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh. The carmaker had inked deal with the Government of Andhra Pradesh in April, 2017. The South Korean carmaker also confirmed that it will introduce a range of new vehicles (including India-specific compact electric car) between 2019 – 2021. At the Auto Expo 2018, the carmaker unveiled the Rio hatchback, Carnivall 7-seater crossover, Stinger GT, Soul electric compact SUV and Optima plug-in hybrid. Reports suggest that Kia will launch the Rio hatchback in India to challenge Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Swift.
