Kia Motors has completed its one successful year in the Indian market. The South Korean carmaker has begun its innings with the Seltos mid-size SUV, which was followed by Carnival premium MPV. In terms of sales, both models have been doing really well for the company. Now, the company is ready to bring in its third product in the month of September – the Kia Sonet subcompact SUV. Recently, Kia has revealed its future plans that include the product portfolio expansion with more utility vehicles and sedans.
According to a latest report, the South Korean carmaker might also foray into the electric vehicle space with a Hyundai Kona and MG ZS EV rival. It could be the Kia Soul EV that highlighted the brand’s EV capabilities at this year’s Auto Expo alongside the Kia e-Niro. Estimated to be priced around Rs 22 lakh, the Soul EV is reported to come sooner than expected. One must note that Kia hasn’t made any formal announcements about the Soul EV’s India launch.
Globally, the Kia Soul EV is offered with battery packs – 39.2kWh with a 136bhp electric motor and a 64kWh with a 204bhp electric motor. While the former is offered on the lower variants, the latter is reserved for the higher trims. The bigger capacity battery delivers a claimed range of 450km on a single charge. It can do 0 to 100kmph in 7.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 170kmph. Its battery can be juiced up in 9.5 hours to get fully charged via AC charger and 60 minutes via a fast DC charger. The Kia electric SUV has compact dimensions measuring 4195mm in length, 1800mm in width and 1605mm in height with a wheelbase of 2600mm. The Soul EV is as big as the Hyundai Kona electric, but carries quirky tall-boy design. Some of its key features include a 1.0.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, ventilated seats, a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, leather upholstery and more.
