Kia Sonet Concept

Kia Motors India has recently released the first set of teaser images of its upcoming sub-4 meter SUV concept. The compact SUV is scheduled to be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. Codenamed QYi, the new model is rumoured to be called the Kia Sonet. It will be the Kia’s smallest model in India.

Scheduled to be launched during festive season later this year, the Kia Sonet will directly rival the already established compact SUVs including the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300. The new Kia compact SUV will share its platform with the Hyundai Venue; however, it will have unique exterior and interior inspired by the global Kia SUVs.

The teaser confirms that the Kia Sonet design will receive Kia’s signature styling at the front. The front fascia of the Kia Sonet gets the signature Kia Tiger Nose grille with honeycomb inserts, muscular bumper that accommodates wider air-dam and vertical air-dams on each side. Instead of the split headlamp set-up, the Kia compact SUV will receive the single headlamp unit. However, there are uniquely styled vents placed below the headlamp to offer sporty profile. The sharp-looking headlamp comes with LED daytime running lights, while the fog-lights are placed lower on the bumper with matte-silver finish. Kia hasn’t revealed the interior details of the Sonet compact SUV. It is likely to share some of the interior design highlights with the Seltos SUV. The SUV is expected to receive a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, UVO connect, digital instrument console, automatic AC, multi-functional steering wheel, etc.

Not just platform, the Kia Sonet will share the mechanics with the Venue SUV. It is likely to be offered with 3 engine options – a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. Both manual and automatic versions are likely to be on offer.
