Kia Sonet Final Model Spotted; Launch In August 2020

Kia Sonet subcompact SUV recently made its global debut in its concept form at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. Now, the production-ready version of the vehicle caught on camera during its test rounds in the country.

The partially camouflaged test mule seems to be the mid-level variant featuring dual-tone ORVMs, fender mounted turn indicators, rear bumper with faux skid plate, LED taillamps and high mounted stop lamp.

Upfront, the subcompact SUV will carry Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille, tiger-eyeline DRLs, stepwell geometry within the grille mesh. Styling elements such as muscular side creases, pronounced bonnet, body cladding, flush-fitting door handles and LED taillamps connected via a light bar are likely to be retained.

Engine setup of the Kia Sonet will be borrowed from the Hyundai Venue. There will be a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor. The SUV will get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.

The Sonet petrol will come with the segment -first iMT (intelligent manual transmission) with auto-rev matching. The diesel engine will be offered with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

Scheduled to launch in August, the sub-4 meter SUV from the Korean carmaker will be gun up straight against the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. The company aims to sell over 70,000 units of the Sonet in its first year. The production of the subcompact SUV will take place at the carmaker’ Anantapur based facility in Andhra Pradesh.
