Kia Sonet Compact SUV World Debut Tomorrow in India

Kia Sonet Concept

The long-awaited Kia Sonet compact SUV will finally make its global debut in India at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The new model will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. It is scheduled to be launched in the second half of this year, around festive season Diwali. The Sonet will be Kia’s smallest SUV in India.

The new Kia compact SUV will share its underpinings with the Hyundai Venue compact SUV; however, it will come with unique exterior and interior. It is expected to be offered with 3 engine options – a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. Both manual and automatic versions are likely to be on offer.

The released teaser images reveal that the Kia Sonet features the signature Tiger Nose grille with honeycomb inserts, muscular bumper that accommodates wider air-dam and vertical air-dams on each side. It comes with single headlamp unit with LED daytime running lights, while the fog-lights are placed lower on the bumper with matte-silver finish. It has uniquely styled vents positioned right below the headlamp.

Moving towards the side, the Sonet gets flat-ish bonnet and squared-off wheel arches. It has black cladding all around the body and diamond cut alloys. However, the production version is expected to receive differently styled 16-inch alloys. Instead of SUV-ish profile, the SUV will get crossover-like look with rising window-line and sloping roof. At the back, the SUV gets wider rear glasshouse and a roof-integrated small spoiler. It comes with a connected tail-lamp design, which are connected by an LED strip. The bumper has large black inserts with matte-silver bits.
