Kia Sonet India

We informed you earlier that Kia Motors is readying an all-new compact SUV, which will be launched in our market in 2020. Codenamed QYi, the new sub-4 meter SUV is rumoured to be called the Kia Sonet. The compact SUV will make global debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, but in a concept form. It will directly rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra XUV300.

The Kia Sonet sub-4 meter SUV is expected to be based on the Hyundai Venue’s platform. Not just platform, the small SUV is also likely to share its powertrains with the Korean cousin. If reports are to be believed, the compact SUV could be offered with 4 engine options – a 83PS, 1.2L MPI naturally aspirated petrol, a 120PS, 1.0L T-GDI turbocharged, 3-cylinder petrol, a 123PS, 1.6L MPI naturally aspirated petrol and a 90PS, 1.4L CRDi turbo diesel.  Instead of 1.4L diesel and 1.6L petrol, Kia Motors could opt for the de-tuned versions of the 1.5L petrol and diesel engines that also powers the Seltos compact SUV. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and a CVT automatic.

The sub-4 meter SUV is expected to share some of the styling cues from the bigger Kia SUVs including Seltos and Sonic. The SUV has already been spotted testing on Indian roads. Some of the design highlights will include signature Tiger Nose grille with integrated ice-cube styled fog lamps, LED daytime running lamps, raked rear windshield and LED tail-lamps. The SUV will ride on 16-inch alloy wheels.

The Kia Sonet compact SUV will be offered with several high-end comfort and convenience features including UVO Connect, multi-functional steering wheel, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic air conditioning, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, etc
