Kia Motors India has released the first official sketches of its upcoming subcompact SUV that will make its debut at the Auto Expo 2020. While the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the name and details of the vehicle, it’s likely to be called ‘Kia Sonet’ (codenamed Kia QYi). The company claims that the new compact SUV concept will carry “modern, dynamic and bold design” and “embody Kia’s ‘Power to Surprise’ slogan in India”.
In the subcompact SUV space, the Kia Sonet (Kia QYi) will be positioned against multiple cars like Maruti Suzuki VItara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon. The launch of the vehicle will happen in the second half of this year.
The Kia Sonet compact SUV will share its platform and engine mechanism with the Hyundai Venue. It’s likely to come with 3 BS6-compliant engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol, a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The compact SUV lineup might be offered with 4 gearbox options – a 5-speed manual, 1 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT automatic and a CVT automatic.
